My Life with Manure

My Life with Manure by Janet Gorman

Janet and I became pen pals thanks to a common acquaintance. We have never met in person, but reading her letters, I encouraged her to publish. Her other friends have also encouraged her to publish. She’s got a humorous, poetic, spiritually informed style. The title is unfortunate, I think, from a sales point of view, but I think Janet’s earthy sense of humor and unassuming approach to life led her to this title. As she puts it, “For a long time now I’ve thought, ‘If I ever write my autobiography, it will be titled “My Life With Manure”.’ This idea was confirmed just last week when — after cleaning both barns for a total of thirteen wheelbarrow loads of horse manure, stepping over piles of dog manure–I put out cat food in the feed room, shut the door and felt a wet plop land on my already-washed-for-the-day hair. It was courtesy of the barn swallows nesting right above the door.” The blurb on the back cover reads, “This book is a collection of poems, letters, and articles written by Janet Gorman across a lifetime filled with devotion to horses, music and the God who created them.”
